Dedication Ceremony

Yesterday’s Dedication Ceremony for the first Community Cemetery in the country was a beautiful & fitting event which celebrated this unique achievement for Pendeen. In true Cornish style we had Pendeen Silver Band leading the music which included a rousing rendition of ‘Trelawney’, and the very moving ‘Hail to the Homeland’ as young people from the village tied Cornish Tartan ribbons and flowers to the gate to symbolise the binding of the land to the community. Those young people were a credit to their families and to our community.

None of this would have been possible without the huge generosity of Terry & Janet Davey who donated the land, the hard work of the committee Malcolm Early and his dear late wife Pat, Bev Strick, Marcia Hancocks, Jane Colliver, and Delia Webb, as well as the ongoing support of the Lands End Peninsula Community Land Trust.

We are forever grateful to the grant award from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund which enabled us to complete all the ground and construction works necessary to create this facility, and to local company CGS Contractors South West for the brilliant job they have done.
