Housing
Croft Mear, Pendeen
Sue James, founding Trustee and on-going Chair, outside one of the terraces built at Croft Mear, Pendeen, as it neared completion in 2015. Housing Market conditions changed between our obtaining planning consent and completion so, only 3 of the homes were originally sold to 1st time local buyers and 5 were purchased by Cornwall Council for local rent. Since, when a private owner wanted to move, Cornwall Council bought a 6th.
The other photos show the housing as it is today, with the residents and Land Trust working together to maintain the open spaces.
Lafrowda Close
We worked with Agile Properties to make the successful planning application for 3 homes for local people in the disused area of Lafrowda Close. As part of early decisions to work with Agile Properties, we engaged with those in need of homes, all of whom were positive about their potential. The provisional outline sketch (below) shows how these might be laid out, with planting but the detailed plans can be viewed on Cornwall Council’s website – application number PA26/00944.
Progress to Planning was made due to Community Capacity Funding and Early Stage Bridging Funding from Cornwall Council. Agile Properties acted as our Agent commissioning and carrying out the necessary surveys, reports and drawings to submit the planning application. It is a complex site due to services below the concrete.

We have had informal conversations with people living closest to the site before submitting the planning application and will keep folk informed as we move towards delivery.
This is a very different approach to providing housing and, aware of the sensitivities of our landscape, we hope this small pilot site will enable local people and planners to assess whether we can support more homes like these, in our local community. They can contribute to meeting local housing needs without damaging the planet as conventional homes do that use concrete and bricks.
Regrettably, since obtaining planning consent in April, Agile Properties has gone into administration. We are therefore at the beginning of a journey to delivery, needing to find a company capable of delivery the homes as consented and to gain access to Homes England capital money, we need a Registered Housing Provider (Housing Association) to work with us. We still really hope we can deliver these sustainable, energy efficient homes.
